This episode’s guest is Nikki Nash who is the author of the book “Market Your Genius”, an international keynote speaker, podcast host, and a storytelling expert. We talk all about marketing, how it’s oddly similar to dating, how to tell your story and stand out in a crowded marketplace, and get paid as a go-to industry expert.

The parallel of marketing and dating

When you look at marketing, at its core it’s all about relationship building. “This is honestly why I like it so much,” Nikki told us. She explained that you’re just essentially building relationships with people who want a problem solved and you have the solution. She goes on to say that the stages you have to go through with marketing are the same stages you go through with dating.

The art of mastering one app.

Nikki explains so often people feel that pressure to be on every platform under the sun, and there’s always something new coming out, and you can really feel that FOMO. “For most people, the biggest mistake they can make as an entrepreneur is having shiny object syndrome,” Nikki says. What happens when you try to do all the things is you start to spread yourself too thin and nothing is done well.

Nikki recommends choosing one platform that your ideal customer is in the beginning and crushing it! You know that platform like the back of your hand. You know exactly what content works and what doesn’t work. “You’ve tested over and over and you’ve made that platform your B,” explains Nikki. Only after you are able to show up consistently and know when you show up there you get your desired result (and you know what that result is), don’t try another platform.

What's a content rebel and why you should be one

Content rebel all started because when Nikki started her business she just wanted to add value, be present, and create amazing content. Through that people got to know her and she would have people reach out that needed support or guidance and wanted to work with her. “I’m such a little content rebel because I do content but I tend to break a lot of the rules that people would say,” explained Nikki. When it came to those that said you have to be everywhere and do all the things and have automated this and that, she always steered from that and said no.
